The École Nationale des Chartes (; ) is a French ''grande école'' and a constituent college of Université PSL, specialising in the auxiliary sciences of history, historical sciences. It was founded in 1821, and was located initially at the Archives Nationales (France), National Archives, and later at the Sorbonne (building), Palais de la Sorbonne (5th arrondissement). In October 2014, it moved to 65 rue de Richelieu, opposite the Richelieu-Louvois site of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, National Library of France. The school is administered by the Ministère de l'enseignement supérieur et de la recherche, Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research. It holds the status of a ''grand établissement''. Its students, who are recruited by competitive examination and hold the status of trainee civil servant, receive the qualification of archivist-paleographer after completing a thesis. Sorbonne (building)
The name Sorbonne (French: ''La Sorbonne''; , ; ) is commonly used to refer to the historic University of Paris in Paris, France or one of its successor institutions (see below). It is also the name of a building in the Latin Quarter of Paris which from 1253 onwards housed the College of Sorbonne, part of one of the first universities in the Western world, later renamed University of Paris and commonly known as "the Sorbonne". The Sorbonne building and the “''La Sorbonne''” trademark are owned by the Chancellerie des Universités de Paris. Today, it continues to house the successor universities of the University of Paris, such as : * Sorbonne University, * Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, * Sorbonne Nouvelle University, * and the ''Chancellerie des Universités de Paris'', which manages the building.
