'Adan Governorate
Aden ( ) is a governorates of Yemen, governorate of Yemen, including the city of Aden. At the 2004 census, it had a population of 589,419. The ancient capital, the port city of Crater (Aden), Crater, was located here. Aden was under United Kingdom, British rule in the period from 1839 to 1967. In 1967, after years of struggle, Aden and other southern regions gained their independence. The city of Aden became the capital of South Yemen between 1967 and 1990. In 1990, both South Yemen and Yemen Arab Republic, North Yemen combined to form the present Republic of Yemen. Aden is now the commercial capital of the Republic of Yemen. The archipelago of Socotra was part of the Governorate of Aden, but it was attached to Hadhramaut Governorate in 2004. The Republic of Yemen is divided into twenty-one governorates ('' muhafazah'') and one municipality ( amanah): The governorates are subdivided into 333 districts (''muderiah''), which are subdivided into 1,996 sub-districts, and then into 40,793 villages and 88,817 sub villages (as of 2013). Before 1990, Yemen existed as two separate entities. South Yemen consisted of modern Aden, Abyan, Mahrah, Dhale, Hadramaut, Socotra, Lahij, and Shabwah Governorates, while the rest made up North Yemen. Abyan Governorate
Abyan ( ) is a governorates of Yemen, governorate of Yemen. The Abyan region was historically part of the Fadhli Sultanate. It was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army militant group. Its Capital (political), capital is the city of Zinjibar. This governorate is noted for its agriculture, in particular the cultivation of Phoenix dactylifera, date palms and animal husbandry. Khur Maksar District
Khor Maksar (Br.Eng. əˈmæksə �ɔːɾˈmaksaɾ is a district of the Aden Governorate, Yemen. As of 2003, the district had a population of 47,044 inhabitants. History As part of Aden Colony, Khor Maksar was a military base for the British forces who built multiple barracks in the area. Its importance strengthened further after the Royal Air Force moved to the district in 1927. They constructed airports and some military camps to accommodate the Air Force soldiers. After World War II, Khor Maksar was planned and built according to the modern English style with all the necessary facilities.
