Íris Rezende
Iris Rezende Machado (22 December 1933 – 9 November 2021) was a Brazilian politician who was a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB). Biography Rezende made his career in the state of Goiás, being City Councillor and Mayor of Goiânia, State Deputy in Goiás, State Governor for two terms, Minister of Agriculture during José Sarney government, and Minister of Justice in the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso. He was married to Homonymous Íris Araújo. City Councillor in 1958, State Deputy in 1962, and Mayor of Goiânia in 1965, Rezende was removed from office by the military regime in 1969. He was elected Governor of Goiás in 1982, but resigned after his nomination for the Ministry of Agriculture by president Sarney. Rejzende returned to the State Government in 1991, where he remained in office until his second resignation in 1994 to run for the Federal Senate. The military dictatorship in Brazil (), occasionally referred to as the Fifth Brazilian Republic, was established on 1 April 1964, after a coup d'état by the Brazilian Armed Forces, with support from the United States government, against president João Goulart. The Brazilian dictatorship lasted for 21 years, until 15 March 1985. The coup was planned and executed by the most senior commanders of the Brazilian Army and received the support of almost all high-ranking members of the military, along with conservative sectors in society, like the Catholic Church and anti-communist civilian movements among the Brazilian middle and upper classes. 2016 Brazilian Municipal Elections
The Brazilian municipal elections of 2016 took place on 2 October 2016 and on 30 October 2016 (for cities with more than 200,000 voters, where the two-round system, second round is available). Electors chose mayors, vice-mayors and city councillors of all 5,568 cities of the country. The partisan conventions took place between 20 July and 5 August. The party political broadcast started on 26 August and ended on 29 September. Until 2012 Brazilian municipal elections, 2012, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays there was the broadcast for candidates to city halls, 30 minutes long. The broadcasts for candidates for city councils were broadcast on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, also 30 minutes long. At least 97 cities had only one candidate for mayor in these elections. Besides that, 48.8% of the cities of the country didn't have more than two candidates. 2010 Goiás Gubernatorial Election
The 2010 Goiás gubernatorial election was held on October 3, as part of the general election in Brazil. In this election, four million citizens from the state of Goiás were eligible to vote to determine the successor to incumbent Governor Alcides Rodrigues, from the center-right Progressive Party (PP). Because of term limits, Rodrigues was constitutionally forbidden to run once he finished Marconi Perillo's term, which he assumed in 2006 when Perillo left the office to run for the Senate. During his administration, Rodrigues parted ways with his predecessor, and went on to support the candidacy of Vanderlan Cardoso, the former mayor of Senador Canedo, from the Republic Party (PR).
