Äli Bektaev
Äli Äbdikärimuly Bektaev (, ''Äli Äbdıkärımūly Bektaev''; born 20 April 1962) is a Kazakh politician who's serving as a Senator for Turkistan Region since 1 October 2014. From February 2006 to May 2008, he was the Äkim of Turkistan and continued serving as deputy until 2014. He served as the chairman of Auyl People's Democratic Patriotic Party from 2015 to 2023. Biography Early life and education Bektaev was born to a Muslim Kazakh family in the village of Yangi-Bazar in Turkistan Region. He is the son of Abdulkarim (Äbdikärim) Bektaev. In 1984, he graduated from the Faculty of Agricultural Mechanization in the Kazakh National Agrarian University as a mechanical engineer. In 1992, he earned his degree from the Faculty of Political Science in the KIMEP University with a degree in Theory of Social and Political Relations. The Senate of Kazakhstan (, ''Қазақстан Парламентінің Сенаты'', ) is the upper house of two chambers in Kazakhstan's legislature, known as the Parliament (''Parlamenti''). The Senate is composed of elected members: two from each region and two from three municipalities which are Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent. Deputies of the Senate are elected through indirect suffrage by secret ballot. An ''akim'' (, , әкімдер / ''äkimder''; ; , ) is the head of a local government in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. ''Akim'' is derived from the Arabic word '' hakim'', which means "ruler" or "governor". 2020 Kazakh Senate Election
Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 12 August 2020 to elect members of the Senate of Kazakhstan for the 6th Parliament of Kazakhstan. Astana
Astana is the capital city of Kazakhstan. With a population of 1,423,726 within the city limits, it is the second-largest in the country after Almaty, which had been the capital until 1997. Turkistan Region, formerly known as South Kazakhstan Region from 1992 to 2018 and Chimkent Region from 1963 to 1991, is the southernmost region of Kazakhstan, bordering Uzbekistan.
