Yugandhar

''Yugandhar'' is a 1979 Indian Telugu-language action film, produced by P. Vidya Sagar on Sri Gajalakshmi Arts banner and directed by K. S. R. Das. The film stars N. T. Rama Rao, Jayasudha, and music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. It is a remake of the Hindi film ''Don'' (1978).

Plot

The film begins with a deadly & daredevil gangster Yugandhar hiding from Interpol's international criminal list. A special Interpol officer David lands to work with S.P. Jagannath. Once, Yugandhar senses & slays his acolyte Ramesh a police informer. So, his enraged fiancee Kamini avenges his death, but she too killed. Consequently, Jaya the sister of Ramesh secretly plots to wipe out Yugandhar and enrolls in their gang. During an operation, Yugandhar becomes a victim of a bullet and dies which Jagannath alone is aware of. Ergo, he silently buries the body, ensuring that Yugandhar is still alive. Fortunately, he encounters Yugandhar’s identical Vijay, when Jagannath schemes to supersede him therein, to snatch the gang. Vijay is a street dancer who adopts two orphan kids, leaving them under the tutelage of Jagannath, he takes up the mission.

Indeed, the kids' father Ram Singh is in prison and has an extraordinary talent for opening any type of locker. Once, a mobster Shankar offers Ram Singh a huge amount to loot a bank, though denies it at the outset but is compelled as his wife is terminally ill. Anyhow, he is caught by Jagannath, loses a limb and his wife dies. Now, Jagannath succeeds in intruding Vijay into the ring as an amnesia patient. Parallelly, Ram Singh acquits, seeks vengeance on Jagannath, and hunts his children. In the interim, Vijay gets detailed knowledge about Yugandhar and announces his recovery. He also handovers the red diary and proceeds to Jagannath. Whereat, Jaya backs to eliminate him, but he is done in confirming as Vijay when Jaya apologizes, and they crush.

Currently, Vijay gets wind of a celebration when the entire underworld gathers together and notifies Jagannath. At the same time, Ram Singh attacks Jagannath but is behind as he knows the whereabouts of his children who vows to reveal after his return. Following, police hit to surround everyone but tragically, Jagannath spot dead in the read. As of today, Vijay has no piece of evidence to prove his true identity, even his last hope the red dairy is missing and he is seized. Thus, he absconds but when he undertakes a charge in the hide with the aid of Jaya. Hence, the gang clutches the children to control Vijay. Besides, the dairy is for use by Ram Singh via he swindles them. Here as a flabbergast, it turns out that Interpol officer David is the chieftain of blackguards who butchered Jagannath. Forthwith, Ram Singh moves to negotiations with David when he spots his children and skips with them. Suddenly, Vijay arrives for their rescue when a brawl erupts as the two mutually misconstrue as the enemy. Later cognizant of actuality, they mingle along with Jaya. At last, Vijay ceases the baddies and affirms him as non-guilty. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Vijay & Jaya.

Related film

In 2009, a second Telugu remake of the Hindi film ''Don'', titled '' Billa'', was released. Jayasudha played a guest role, different from the role she played in ''Yugandhar''.
