, Xie was awarded the Scientific and Technological Achievement Prize at the 1978 National Science and Technology Conference. Xie went on to become the project director during design, development and construction of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), which was most notably used in precision measurement of the τ lepton. He received the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award for his work in 2011. Xie died on 20 February 2016 at the age of 95 in Beijing. The inner
