The manor of Wrottesley had been held by the Wrottesley family (originally 'de Verdun') from the twelfth century, having been granted to Simon de Verdun of Cocton ( Coughton, Warwickshire), son of William (de Verdun) of Cocton by Adam the Abbot of Evesham.
