His research focused on topics such as internet dating and romantic relationships, "happiness and goals, collecting behavior, psychological aspects of film and television, and the relationship between psychology and Zen Buddhism." In 2012, McIntosh moved to the College of William and Mary to teach introductory psychology classes and focus on his writing.
