The name ''Tizi Ouzou'' is made up of two Kabyle words: ''Tizi'' meaning col, and ''Ouzou'' (from ''Azzu'') meaning

At the top of the mountain Belloua lies the village of Redjaouna. The latter is attached to the town of Tizi Ouzou.
