History

During the
Ming dynasty The Ming dynasty (), officially the Great Ming, was an imperial dynasty of China, ruling from 1368 to 1644 following the collapse of the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty. The Ming dynasty was the last orthodox dynasty of China ruled by the Han peo ...
, the Wang, Tsai, and Cheng families built houses in the area to farm the land. The area was thus named ''Sankuaicu'' (). After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China, the area was renamed Sanmin to set a good example.


Geography

The current population of Sanmin District is 358,081 people, consisting of 176,811 males and 181,270 females.


Administrative divisions

As of August 2006, Sanmin District has 87 villages; which are divided into 1,749 neighborhoods; which are further sub-divided into 125,561 households.
