Political career

Tyler serves as the Chair of the Education Committee and as a member of the Agriculture Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee, and Appropriations Committee. She was also a former member of the Sussex County Board of Supervisors. The Virginia Education Association Fund for Children and Public Education has endorsed her because she has consistently voted for legislation supporting public education. Tyler lost her re-election bid in 2021 to Republican pharmacist Otto Wachsmann, who had been her general election opponent in 2019.
