This genus was created in 1913 by Lermantoff.Lermantoff E (1913) Cber ''Myriospora trophoniae'' n. gen. n. sp., ein neues, in ''Trophonia plumosa'' parasitierendes Coccidium. Arch. Protistenkunde Jena 32 Currently two species are recognised in this genus.
