History

Mu Epsilon Theta was founded at the

(UT) as a sorority based on Catholic principles on October 21, 1986. Its purpose is to unite college women by promoting academics, leadership, community service, and moral and spiritual well-being. Its founders were Maria Alcocer, Evelyn Greenfield, and Patricia Perez. The sorority was officially recognized at UT on January 16, 1987. In the spring of 1996, the ''Alpha chapter'' at UT gave

, became a colony. It was chartered as the ''Beta chapter'' in 1997. In the spring of 2013, a colony was started at Arizona State University; it was chartered as the ''Gamma chapter'' in the spring of 2015. In 2023, the sorority decided to remove Catholic from its description.


Symbols

The motto of Mu Epsilon Theta is "Our Strength is from Above." Its pillars are spirituality, service, and sisterhood. Its colors are black, yellow, and silver.
