on 1 November 1867. A previously named Moseley station on the same line changed its name to Kings Heath station upon the opening of the station. From 1923, the station was operated by the

, revived the plans to restore local passenger services to the line, and declared it one of their priority transport schemes to be delivered by 2025. In 2019, the project to re-open the stations at Moseley,

and Hazelwell received £15 million in Government funding, with construction due to start in 2020 and aimed for completion in time for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. In March 2021 it was announced that funding had been found for the project, with an opening date expected in 2023. The station may be named Moseley or Moseley Village depending on a public consultation. On 14 June 2022, it was announced that the station will be named Moseley Village.
