Mastigamoeba is an amoeboid genus.[1][2] The exact classification is subject to debate, including the assumption that it is synonymous with Phreatamoeba.

It includes Mastigamoeba balamuthi.[3]

Mastigamoeba invertens is now classified as Breviata anathema.[4]
