A by-election was held in Allington Ward following the death of Malcolm Robertson on 10 August 2012. All 4 of UKIP's councillors resigned from the party around 28 March 2018, and formed the Independent Maidstone party. Liberal Democrat councillor Richard Webb (Coxheath) was expelled from the party in March 2018.
