History

Maibara Station opened on July 1, 1889 as a station on the
Japanese Government Railway The Japanese Government Railways (JGR) was the national railway system directly operated by the Japanese Ministry of Railways ( ja, 鉄道省, Tetsudō-shō, ) until 1949. It was a predecessor of Japanese National Railways and the later Japan Ra ...
(JGR) Tōkaidō Line, which became the Japan National Railways (JNR) after World War II. The Ohmi Railway began operations of March 15, 1931. The station came under the aegis of the West Japan Railway Company (JR West) on April 1, 1987 due to the privatization of the JNR.


Passenger statistics

In fiscal 2018, the JR West portion of the station was used by an average of 5,514 passengers daily, the JR Central portion by 7,240 passengers daily (boarding passengers only). The Ohmi Railway portion of the station was used by 1,069 passengers daily (boarding passengers only) in 2015.
