. The municipal seat lies at Madera. The municipality covers an area of 8,158.8 km2. As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 29,611, down from 32,031 as of 2005. As of 2010, the city of Madera had a population of 15,447. A ''narcofosa'' (mass grave attributed to organized crime) containing the remains of women killed in 2011 and 2012 was found in Madera in December 2016.
