(The house was north of the Uxbridge Road near the Acton boundary.) It has been claimed that his novel ''The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, Tom Jones'' was partly written here but this is unlikely as the first edition was published in February 1749 (''Oxford Dictionary of National Biography'').
