In 2006, Jay-Z journeyed to Nigeria as part of his activities in the service of the U.N. Water for Life project. While there, he was enstooled as the Sarkin Waka of Kwara – a Nigerian Chieftaincy, chieftain of the Fula people – by Alhaji Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu Gambari, the Emir of the Ilorin Emirate.
