It is the busiest metro station in India. It was named on 25 December 2002. During peak hours, it serves as an alternate Northern Terminus for the yellow line along with
Vishwa Vidyalaya.
The Kashmere Gate Metro station services the historic
Kashmiri Gate area of Delhi, and is currently the largest metro station within the

Phase III connections
Under the Delhi Metro Phase III plan, the
Violet Line was extended from its current terminus to meet the Yellow and Red Lines at Kashmere Gate station. This will provide an alternative route between
Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate, alleviating crowds on the heavily used Yellow Line.
