Edgar started his career with

in May 1954. After making 22 appearances and scoring six goals in the league for Barnsley, he joined Gillingham in June 1958. He made 45 appearances and scored 23 goals in the league for them, before joining York City in June 1959, and was regarded an important capture, as the club faced their first season in the

Edgar died in early 2008, at the age of 71.Edgar's death was reported on 5 February 2008, and the article states that he died "last week", meaning the date of death is sometime between 28 January and 3 February
