Born in 1951, Pisani-Ferry was trained as an engineer. He has a Master in mathematics. He has an advanced economics degree from the Centre d'études des programmes économiques (CEPE, Paris) and a Master's Degree in Engineering from

Career

Early on he held positions in research and government in France. Pisani-Ferry joined the

in 1989 as economic adviser to the European Commission, specifically the Director-General of DG ECFIN. From 1992 to 1997 he was the director of CEPII, a French economics research centre. In 1997, he became senior economic adviser to the French minister of Finance and was later appointed executive president of the French prime minister's Council of Economic Analysis (2001–2002). He served as senior adviser to the director of the French Treasury from 2002 until 2004. In 2005 and until 2013 he was the founding director of the think tank Bruegel in Brussels. He was president of the French economic association from 2006 until 2007. From December 2011 until May 2012, Pisany-Ferry served as member of the
