The name of the settlement was changed from ''Krnice'' to ''Idrske Krnice'' in 1952. It was changed again from ''Idrske Krnice'' to ''Idrijske Krnice'' in 1980. The name literally means 'Krnice near Idrija', distinguishing the village from
