Nicknamed ''La Iguana'' (The Lizard), Marchena made his professional debut for Cartaginés in 1987 and left them for

ahead of the 1992-93 season. In June 1996 he moved to Turrialba, but a knee injury cut short his career in October 1996. In December 1998 he left his post as an administrative assistant at the Banco Popular to resume his career with Ramonense. A year later he returned to Cartagines.¡Marchena a la cancha!
