Reception

The adaptation is popular among fans of the books, despite initial criticism for Ellie not looking how she was described, particularly in size and stature, and racism towards the character of Magda, who was white in the books but played by an African-British actress. Many fans praise the episodes that take a different direction from the books, citing a love for Dan and Darius, and a dislike for Russell.
