In February 2014 the board decided to fund additional consultant physician and anaesthetist posts. In October 2019 the hospital was deemed "not fit for purpose" following an audit by the board, which found that while the hospital was well-maintained it would cost around £10 million to deal with the maintenance backlog, and that this would still not deal with issues such as the size of departmental areas of the limited opportunity for expansion on the current site.
