In 2012, Iero was reminded of his awful stomach pains that plagued him his whole life. That same year, Iero converted his entire basement into a makeshift studio to record new songs. Upon MCR's breakup in 2013, Iero recruited drummer Jarrod Alexander , guitarist/backing vocalist Evan Nestor, and bassist Rob Hughes for the band frnkiero andthe cellabration and began work on a debut album. Alexander was the former touring drummer for MCR, Nestor was a fellow Belleville musician and Iero's brother-in-law, and Hughes was a former Leathermouth
bandmate, so Iero knew everyone. By 2014, the band released their debut album "Stomachaches " featuring more personal lyrics about Iero's stomach pains, leaving home to tour, and everyone's everyday weaknesses. After signing with Staple and getting replacement drummer Matt Olsson, Iero took the Cellabration on several tours alongside several other pop-punk acts.

In 2015, Iero announced that the band had changed their name to Frank Iero and the Patience and that Hughes had left them. 2016 saw the release for "Parachutes " which Steve Evetts produced and performed bass on. The band had gone through a series of changes by this point from their name change to lineup and changes but nonetheless, the album garnered much success and the band got bassist Alex Grippo and hit the road for the "Parachutes" 2016-17 world tour.
