Bahuševič was an initiator of critical realism in Belarusian literature. His works are closely connected with Belarusian folklore. He published two collections of poems, ''Dudka biełaruskaja'' ( en, Belarusian fife) and ''Smyk biełaruski'' ( en, Belarusian fiddlestick), in
