(2013) recognize the following species as valid: *'' Myocastor columnaris'' (Middle Pleistocene) *'' Myocastor obesus'' (Late Miocene) *'' Myocastor paranensis'' (Late Miocene) Other species described but no longer considered valid include ''Myocastor minor'', ''Myocastor perditus'', and ''Myocastor priscus''.
