The Emerging Sources Citation Index is a citation index produced since 2015 by Thomson Reuters, and now by Clarivate Analytics. It is accessible through the Web of Science.[1] The index includes academic journals "of regional importance and in emerging scientific fields".[2]

Together with Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI), the ESCI database is rated as among the most important on the web.[3]

Since the ESCI does not measure any Impact Factor for the indexed journals it cannot provide anything about the quality of the journals. Therefore, good and bad quality titles are in one place. The ESCI index is called the prestige of the Predatory open access publishing. For instance, Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management (ISSN: 1598-7248) is indexed in ESCI. The journal published an article entitled "The Impact of Brand Extension on Brand Image" [4] with virtually no Peer Review. In this article, almost all sentences are grammatically wrong.

Many universities have blacklisted several journals listed in ESCI and the following table shows a selection of the titles due to publication concern. [5][6]
