At the 2010 census, the township was 82.4% non-Hispanic White, 9.3% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 1.8% Asian, and 2.3% were two or more races. 4.6% of the population were of Hispanic or Latino ancestry. At the 2000 census there were 5,157 people, 1,801 households, and 1,458 families living in the township. The population density was 328.9 people per square mile (127.0/km). There were 1,860 housing units at an average density of 118.6/sq mi (45.8/km). The

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.69%. There were 1,801 households, 37.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.1% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.0% were non-families. 15.5% of households were made up of individuals, and 5.7% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.14. The age distribution was 27.7% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% 65 or older. The median age was 38 years.
