Bava was born on 20 July 1917 to Abdullah at Ezhukudickal in Ponnani.

He is one of the major leaders in CPI(M) in Kerala. Imbichi Bava was a member of the National Council of the Communist Party of India before it split in 1964. He was one of the founders of CPI(M).
