The name ''Dolnji Lakoš'' literally means 'lower Lakoš', contrasting with neighboring Gornji Lakoš (literally, 'upper Lakoš'), which is about higher in elevation. The Hungarian name ''Alsólakos'' semantically corresponds to the Slovene name and also means 'lower Lakoš'.
