, and appointed chief Rabbi in 1945. In January 1945 he attended a meeting called by the Stalinist authorities at their headquarters in Lublin . Also attending were Emil Sommerstein, Adolf Berman (brother of secret police chief Jakub Berman), Abba Kovner and Antek Zuckerman. They appear to have been told that the Stalinists were going to lend all possible support with emigration to Palestine and a related armed struggle. Incidents of Communist perpetrated violence against returning Jews soon occurred, with Kahane and others blaming local Poles. Kahane protested against acts of antisemitism in Poland, including at the funeral of the victims of the Kielce pogrom, which was also carried out by Communist forces, as admitted in 1990 by retired secret police officer Anatol Fejgin, himself a Polish Jewhttps://www.doomedsoldiers.com/kielce-pogrom-the-truth-about-the-kielce-pogrom-comes-to-light.html.
