As of the census of 2000, there were 7,884 people, 3,360 households, and 1,942 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,029.4/km2 (5,261.5/mi2). There were 3,529 housing units at an average density of 908.4/km2 (2,355.1/mi2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 89.62% White (U.S. Census), White, 2.32% African American (U.S. Census), Black or Race (United States Census), African American, 0.25% Native American (U.S. Census), Native American, 0.76% Asian (U.S. Census), Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander (U.S. Census), Pacific Islander, 4.90% from Race (United States Census), other races, and 2.08% from two or more races. Hispanic (U.S. Census), Hispanic or Latino (U.S. Census), Latino of any race were 11.07% of the population. There were 3,360 households, out of which 26.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.3% were Marriage, married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.2% were non-families. 35.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 3.05. In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 22.1% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older.
