There were good signs for the Heat as Cameron Gannon led all BBL wicket-takers, snaring 18 wickets at an average of less than 12 – with best bowling of 4–10. Daniel Vettori was also miserly with the ball, going for just over six an over and picking up 7 wickets. Chris Lynn was the best of the batsman scoring 198 runs closely followed by Dan Christian who made 186 runs at an average of 46.5.[7]

They announced a big signing of Former Proteas Skipper and T20 specialist AB de Villiers. They also signed Afghan chinaman Zahir Khan and Young English explosive opener Tom Banton.They faced Thunder in the season opener where they were defeated by 29 runs and lost their next match too from the Stars by 22 runs.But in the next match, they defeated Sixers by 48 runs where Chris Lynn smashed 94 off just 35 deliveries which included 11 sixes.They lost their next match to Scorchers by 40 runs.They won their next three consecutive matches including a match against the Thunder where Banton smoked Arjun Nair for 5 consecutive sixes.They looked in a good position till the mid-season.They lost teher next match to Scorchers by 34 runs but won the next match against the Strikers by 6 wickets.This match was special as AB de Villiers played his first match in the BBL.The Ghosts of BBL|07 returned,as they lost their next three matches including a match where they suffered one of the worst collapse in T20 cricket history by losing 10 wickets from their 36 runs in 55 balls as the score had gone from 0/84(5.5) to 10/120(15) against the Renegades.They ignited some sparks of hope by defeating Stars with a big margin of 71 runs.They needed to win their last match against the Renegades in case to qualify for the playoffs but lost by 7 wickets with Jack Prestwidge dropping some important opportunities and were eliminated from the playoffs spot.
