. The battle happened when Shivaji was returning from the sack of Jalna, northeast of Bombay, where he was attacked at Sangamner by Mughal army led by Ranmast Khan in November 1679. The Maratha rearguard held the Mughals for three days of fierce fighting before the Maratha commander Sidhoji Nimbalkar was eventually killed, along with about 2,000 of his men.
