At the most recent census of 2016, the population of the rural district was 7,554 in 2,188 households. The largest of its 39 villages was Shul, with 2,438 people. In July 2018, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Zarqan County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with the city of Zarqan as its capital.
