History

Before the municipality was established, the administrative region was originally named West-Æro Municipality (Danish:''Vest-Æro Kommune''), and . Following the 1970 Danish Municipal Reform, it was given its official name. The municipality covered an area of 74 km², and had a total population of 3,731 (2005). The town of
