William Morrow (screenwriter)
William S. Morrow (August 16, 1907 – February 5, 1971) was a comedic screenwriter and producer who wrote scripts for radio, films and television. Career He launched his writing career with Jack Benny in 1938 and for 25 years was Bing Crosby's top writer. He arrived in Los Angeles with Ed Beloin from Chicago to work on Jack Benny's writing staff, and he remained with the comedian until entering the Armed Forces in 1942. During his time with Jack Benny, he wrote for two of Benny’s films, '' Love Thy Neighbor'' (1940) and ''Buck Benny Rides Again'' (1940), as well as for the star vehicle ''Tales of Manhattan'' (1942). Released from the Armed Forces in 1945, he joined Bing Crosby and not only worked on his radio shows but on his films and television shows as well. Sandwich, Illinois
Sandwich is a city in DeKalb and Kendall counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. Its population was 7,421 at the 2010 census and 7,221 at the 2020 census. History The town's history is tied to politician "Long John" Wentworth and his efforts to move the Illinois border with Wisconsin from being even with the bottom of Lake Michigan to its present location. If those efforts had not been successful, the state line would reside along the LaSalle-DeKalb County border, placing the incorporated community in Wisconsin. The community was established when Almon Gage sought a railroad stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad that ran through town. Originally naming it Newark Station (not to be confused with the nearby village of Newark) he and Wentworth worked extensively to create the community and also to get the railroad stop created. ''The Ford Show Featuring Bing Crosby'' was a 5-minute CBS network radio show broadcast from 1957 to 1958. It included an opening theme, one or two songs by Bing Crosby, commercials by Ken Carpenter, closing theme, and on occasion a guest such as Rosemary Clooney. Overview These were not live programs but were taped segments put together by Crosby's editor, Murdo MacKenzie. Bill Morrow wrote the scripts and produced the show; and Ken Carpenter was the commercial announcer. The music was taken from the substantial library of songs recorded with Buddy Cole and His Trio. The Ford Road Shows were not confined to Bing Crosby exclusively. The advertising technique, devised by the ad agency J. "I Love You Truly" is a parlor song written by Carrie Jacobs-Bond. Since its publication in 1901 it has been sung at weddings, recorded by numerous artists over many decades, and heard on film and television. History Carrie Jacobs-Bond began to write songs in 1894 to supplement the income of her husband, Frank Bond. When he died in 1895, she returned briefly to her hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin, where "I Love You Truly" was written. She then moved to Chicago where she painted china and rented out rooms to make ends meet. There she continued to write songs and eventually sought to publish them herself. With the encouragement and assistance of friends, including a loan from contralto Jessie Bartlett Davis, in 1901 she published a sheet music collection of her compositions called '' Seven Songs as Unpretentious as the Wild Rose'', one of which was "I Love You Truly". ''The Edsel Show'' is an hour-long television special broadcast live on CBS in the United States on October 13, 1957, intended to promote Ford Motor Company's new Edsel cars. It was a milestone in the long career of entertainer Bing Crosby and is notable as the first CBS entertainment program to be recorded on videotape for rebroadcast in the western part of the country following a live performance for the east coast. Crosby arranged for this ‘live’ program to be ‘produced’ by his alma mater Gonzaga University in order that the profits (estimated at $250,000) could go to them in a tax efficient way.
