WWWW-FM (102.9 MHz), is a commercial radio station licensed to Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is owned by Cumulus Media and it broadcasts a country music format, known as ''W4 Country''. The studios and offices are on Victors Way in Ann Arbor. WWWW-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 50,000 watts, the maximum for this part of Michigan. The transmitter is on West Waters Road at South Zeeb Road, west of downtown Ann Arbor. History Early years The station, created by Saline residents (including puppeteer Meredith Bixby and the town's mayor, Henry Leutheuser) signed on the air on January 6, 1958. The original call sign was WOIA and it was co-owned with WOIB in Saline, Michigan. John Records Landecker
John Records Landecker (born March 28, 1947) is an American Top 40/oldies disc jockey with a trademark saying "Records truly is my middle name" who created ''Boogie Check'', ''Americana Panorama'', and satirical songs and bits based on current events such as "Make a Date with the Watergate scandal, Watergate", and "Press My Conference". He first retired from radio broadcasting on July 31, 2015. ''Boogie Check'' was the last humorous feature Landecker did each night on his show for about two minutes. A string of brief telephone calls was put on the air in rapid succession. From July 2007 through June 2012, he hosted "Into the Seventies", a syndicated weekend radio program from TKO Radio Networks. WLBY (1290 AM) is a broadcast radio station in the United States. Licensed to Saline, Michigan, with offices in nearby Ann Arbor, the station has a talk format and serves surrounding Washtenaw County. WLBY is owned by Cumulus Media along with three other stations based in Ann Arbor. The station first signed on in 1958 as WOIA and had music formats for much of its history, as late as the 2000s. WTKA (1050 AM) is a commercial radio station in Ann Arbor, Michigan, known as "The Big 1050 WTKA." It broadcasts a sports radio format and is owned by Cumulus Media. The studios and offices are on Victors Way in Ann Arbor. By day, WTKA is powered at 10,000 watts, covering most of southeast Michigan. Because 1050 AM is a Mexican clear channel frequency reserved for XEG in Monterrey, WTKA reduces power to 500 watts at night to avoid interference. WQKL (107.1 FM), known on the air as ann arbor's 107one, is a commercial radio station in Ann Arbor, Michigan. WQKL is owned by Cumulus Media, airing an adult album alternative/alternative rock radio format. WQKL has its studios at the south area of Ann Arbor near Briarwood Mall, and broadcasts its signal from a 3,000 watt transmitter atop Tower Plaza in the city's downtown. Despite its low power, it can be heard in many of the western Detroit suburbs as a result of its transmitter being 289 feet tall and located on the roof of Ann Arbor's tallest building. Meredith Bixby
Meredith Bixby (May 31, 1909 – Sept. 11, 2002) was an American puppeteer. Early life and education Meredith Bixby studied engineering at Wayne State University, but discovered a passion for drawing. He then moved to New York City and attend the Art Students League and studied painting under Thomas Hart Benton. Jackson Pollock was one of his classmates. To support himself he worked at the New York Public Library Main Branch. There he found the book A Repertory of Marionette Plays by Paul McPharlin and attempted to make his own production of Dr. Faustus during a month’s vacation. After producing a couple of shows he thought marionette productions would promise a better means of support than painting. Early productions toured from Boston to New Orleans. Arthur Penhallow (born December 20, 1943) is a radio presenter who worked in Detroit, Michigan hosting afternoons on rock station WRIF from 1970-2009. WRIF (101.1 FM) is a commercial active rock radio station licensed in Detroit, Michigan and serving Metro Detroit as well as Windsor and Southwestern Ontario. The station is currently owned by Beasley Media Group. WRIF is a grandfathered FM station.
