American Society Of Cinematographers
The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), founded in Hollywood in 1919, is a cultural, educational, and professional organization that is neither a labor union nor a guild. The society was organized to advance the science and art of cinematography and gather a wide range of cinematographers to discuss techniques and ideas and to advocate for motion pictures as a type of art form. Currently, the president of the ASC is Shelly Johnson. Members use the post-nominal letters "ASC". On the 1920 film titled ''Sand'', cinematographer Joseph H. August, who was an original member of the ASC, became the first individual to have the "ASC" appear after his name on the onscreen credit. Only cinematographers and special effect supervisors can become an ASC member. Basic requirements include being a director of photography for a minimum five out of the last eight years, having a high professional reputation and being recommended by three active or retired ASC members. Homer Scott
Homer A. Scott (October 1, 1880 – December 23, 1956) was a founding member of the American Society of Cinematographers (A.S.C.) and was their president from 1925-1926. He was also a member and director of its predecessor organization, The Static Club of America. Mexican Revolution Little is known of Homer Scott's early work before 1911-1912, when he made several trips from El Paso, Texas into Mexico to photograph and film both sides of the Mexican Revolution. His war photographs were syndicated by Newspaper Enterprise Association, and he also furnished images for the '' New York Herald'', ''Collier's'', and '' Leslie's Weekly''. During one trip, Scott was arrested and nearly executed as a spy. His work is in major collections including the Getty Images and was included in an exhibition titled "Mexico: Photography and Revolution" in 2011 in Mexico City. American Cinematographer Manual
The ''American Cinematographer Manual'' is a filmmaking manual published by the American Society of Cinematographers. Covering lighting, lenses, and film emulsions, it is considered “an authoritative technical reference manual for cinematographers.” The manual also defines the cinematography profession. Publishing history The first version was published in 1935 by as ''The American Cinematographer Hand Book and Reference Guide''. That handbook went through nine editions (1935, '38, '39, '42, '46, '47, '50, '53, '56) before it evolved into the ''American Cinematographer Manual''. Computer animation is the process used for digitally generating Film, moving images. The more general term computer-generated imagery (CGI) encompasses both still images and moving images, while computer animation refers to moving images. Virtual cinematography, Modern computer animation usually uses 3D computer graphics. Computer animation is a digital successor to stop motion and traditional animation. Instead of a physical model or illustration, a digital equivalent is manipulated frame-by-frame. Sharon Calahan is an American cinematographer who was director of photography on the Pixar films ''A Bug's Life'' (1998), ''Toy Story 2'' (1999), and ''Finding Nemo'' (2003), and was lighting director for ''Ratatouille'' (2007), ''Cars 2'' (2011), and '' The Good Dinosaur'' (2015). She took part in the early rise of computer animated feature film making and the acceptance of that medium as cinematography.
