Miss Asia Pageant
ATV Miss Asia Pageant () is an annual Hong Kong-based beauty pageant organized and broadcast by Asia Television (ATV). Originating in 1985 as a local Hong Kong pageant, the contest went on hiatus from the 2000 through 2003, and was re-branded as an Asian pageant in 2004, with contestants spanning the continent of Asia. The pageant was ceased to exist in 2015 with the shutdown of its organizer, ATV. In 2018, ATV announced that they are rebooting the pageant, after their transition from a terrestrial broadcast operation to an online media company. The pageant, which will be partnered with South Korean company CJ E&M, was reported by the media as "ATV's biggest investment of the year". A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. Pageant titles are subdivided into Miss, Mrs. or Ms., and Teen – to clearly identify the difference between pageant divisions. Hundreds and thousands of beauty contests are held annually, but the Big Four are considered the most prestigious, widely covered and broadcast by media. Claire Yiu Ka-lei (born 10 August 1978), is a Hong Kong actress contracted to TVB. Career Yiu started her acting career after being the 2nd runner-up in the Miss Asia Pageant in 1998. After filming some ATV series, such as 海瑞鬥嚴嵩, and Ten Tigers of Guangdong (廣東十虎), she went over to TVB and filmed some minor roles in television dramas such as To Catch The Uncatchable and Healing Hands 3. Belinda Hamnett (; Cantonese: Hon Kwun-Ting) born 28 September 1975 in Hong Kong is an actress, model and ex-beauty queen. Being crowned Miss Asia Pageant 1997 effectively launched her career in the fashion and entertainment industry. The model turned Hong Kong film actress lives in Singapore. Personal life Belinda Hamnett spent her childhood and teenage years in Singapore where her father was stationed. Her father is English and her mother is Chinese. Hamnett resided in Changi, eastern Singapore, where she was a student at Changkat Changi Secondary School. Hamnett attended Sunday school at St Hilda's Church in Ceylon Road. Alice Chan Wai (born 21 November 1973) is a Hong Kong actress currently contracted to TVB. Early life Alice Chan was born in Beijing, with ancestry in the county-level city of Puning in Guangdong. She settled in Hong Kong with her parents and elder sister when she was one-and-a-half years old. After graduating high school, she attended Chu Hai College of Higher Education. She stopped after two years of study to enter the Miss Asia 1996 beauty pageant at 22 years old. Career Chan began her television and acting career after winning the Miss Asia 1996 beauty pageant. Kristy Yang (born 7 January 1974), also known as Yang Gongru, is a Chinese-born Canadian actress based in Hong Kong. Early life Yang was born in Shanghai, China, to a Chinese father and Jenny Liu, a half American-half Chinese.
