The Cartwright Inquiry was a committee of inquiry held in New Zealand from 1987 to 1988 that was commissioned by the Minister of Health, Michael Bassett, to investigate whether, as alleged in an article in ''Metro'' magazine, there had been a failure to treat patients adequately with cervical carcinoma in situ (CIS) at National Women’s Hospital (NWH) by Herbert Green, a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist and associate professor at the Postgraduate School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Auckland. The inquiry was headed by District Court Judge Silvia Cartwright, later High Court Justice, Dame and Governor-General of New Zealand. Cartwright is an unincorporated urban community in the Cartwright – Roblin Municipality within the Canadian province of Manitoba that held village status prior to January 1, 2015. It was originally incorporated as a village on December 31, 1947. History Situated along the Badger Creek, the original location of Cartwright (also known as the Badger, or Old Cartwright) was established in 1879 by pioneers following the Boundary Commission Trail. Old Cartwright began on two townsites, one owned by P.C. McKibbin, the other by J.C. Waugh. The two men admired Sir Richard Cartwright and agreed to name their communities "Cartwright." Waugh's land, being directly on the Boundary Commission Trail, became the area truly considered Cartwright. Cartwright is an unincorporated community in Wood County, located in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, Cartwright had a population of 61 in 2000. History The area in what is known as Cartwright today was first settled as early as 1851. It was originally called "the Barrens" because of its isolation and the danger from wolves. Richard Cartwright "Cart" Carmichael (December 5, 1902December 12, 1960) was a college basketball player. He was the first member of the North Carolina Tar Heels to earn All-America honors in any sport, when he was named to the 1923 first team for men's basketball, an honor he also received in 1924. Carmichael could play all three positions: guard, forward, and center. He is the earliest UNC player with his jersey "honored" in the rafters. Carmichael was a member of the basketball team named 1922 and 1924 "Champions of the South" after winning the Southern Conference tournament at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium. Cartwright Sound is a sound (geography), sound on the southwest coast of Graham Island in the Queen Charlotte Islands of the British Columbia Coast, North Coast of British Columbia, Canada. It was named by Captain George Vancouver in honour of John Cartwright (political reformer), John Cartwright, then serving in the Royal Navy under Admiral Howe and later a noted Reform movement, political and social reformer in Britain. The sound is located in the area of Kano Inlet, and lies between Tcenakum and Hunter Points. In the center is a tiny island called Marble Island. Listed by the BC Geographical Names Information System, the sound is entirely missing from Google Maps.
