Bambi
''Bambi'' is a 1942 American animated drama film directed by David Hand (supervising a team of sequence directors), produced by Walt Disney and based on the 1923 book ''Bambi, a Life in the Woods'' by Austrian author and hunter Felix Salten. The film was released by RKO Radio Pictures on August 13, 1942, and is the fifth Disney animated feature film. The main characters are Bambi, a white-tailed deer; his parents (the Great Prince of the forest and his unnamed mother); his friends Thumper (a pink-nosed rabbit); and Flower (a skunk); and his childhood friend and future mate, Faline. In the original book, Bambi was a roe deer, a species native to Europe; but Disney decided to base the character on a mule deer from Arrowhead, California. Bambi (character)
Bambi is the title character in Felix Salten's 1923 novel, ''Bambi, a Life in the Woods'', and its sequel, '' Bambi's Children'', as well as the Disney animated films ''Bambi'' and ''Bambi II''. The character also appears in Salten's novels ''Perri'' and '' Fifteen Rabbits''. Early German-language editions of the novels were illustrated by Hans Bertle. Thumper (Bambi)
Thumper is a fictional rabbit character from Disney's animated film ''Bambi'' (1942). He is known and named for his habit of thumping his left hind foot. The young adult version of Thumper also appears at the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts as a meetable character in Fantasyland and at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The character was an important influence upon the development of the movie ''Bambi'' which started production with an adult tone which seemed too serious and uncommercial. Felix Salten (; 6 September 1869 – 8 October 1945) was an Austro-Hungarian author and literary critic in Vienna. Life and death Salten was born Siegmund Salzmann on 6 September 1869 in Pest, Austria-Hungary. His father was Fülöp Salzmann, the telegraph office's clerk in Pest; his mother was Maria Singer. He was the grandson of an Orthodox rabbi. When he was four weeks old, his family relocated to Vienna, Austria, as many Jews did after the Imperial government had granted full citizenship rights to Jews in 1867. When his father went bankrupt, the sixteen-year-old Salten quit school and began working for an insurance agency. He also began submitting poems and book reviews to journals. Percival C. Pearce (September 7, 1899 – July 4, 1955) was an American producer, director, and writer, best known for his work with Walt Disney Productions. Early life Born on September 7, 1899 in Waukegan, Illinois, Pearce was the son of English immigrants. Lawrence L. Morey (March 26, 1905 – May 8, 1971) was an American lyricist and screenwriter. He co-wrote some of the most successful songs in Disney films of the 1930s and 1940s, including " Heigh-Ho", " Some Day My Prince Will Come", and "Whistle While You Work", and was also responsible for adapting Felix Salten's book '' Bambi, A Life in the Woods'' into the 1942 Disney film '' Bambi''.
