Wallace (surname)
Wallace is a Scottish surname stemmed from the Anglo-Norman French "Welshman". It is a northern variant form of "Welshman" ( Wace, ''Brut'', éd. I. Arnold, 13927); adjectiv "Welsh" (Id., ibid., 14745); same as "the oil language" (J. Bretel, ''Tournoi de Chauvency'', éd. M. Delbouille, 63). It originates from Old Low Franconian ''*Walhisk'' meaning "foreigner", "Celt", "Roman" which is a cognate of Old English ''wylisċ'' (pronounced "wullish") meaning "foreigner" or "Welshman" (see also Wallach and Walhaz). The original surname may have denoted someone from the former Kingdom of Strathclyde who spoke Cumbric, a close relative of the Welsh language, or possibly an incomer from Wales, or the Welsh Marches. The Kingdom of Strathclyde was originally a part of the Hen Ogledd, its people speaking a Brythonic language distinct from Scottish Gaelic and the Scots language derived from Lothian. Variations of the name include Walla, Wallais, Wallice, Wallang, Wallass, Wallayis, Wallays ...

Wallace And Gromit
''Wallace & Gromit'' is a British stop-motion comedy franchise created by Nick Park of Aardman Animations. The series consists of four short films and one feature-length film, and has spawned numerous spin-offs and TV adaptations. The series centres on Wallace, a good-natured, eccentric, cheese-loving inventor, and Gromit, his loyal and intelligent anthropomorphic beagle. The first short film, ''A Grand Day Out'', was finished and made public in 1989. Wallace was voiced by actors Peter Sallis and Ben Whitehead. Gromit is largely silent and has no dialogue, communicating through facial expressions and body language. Because of their widespread popularity, the characters have been described as positive international cultural icons of both modern British culture and British people in general. BBC News called them "some of the best-known and best-loved stars to come out of the UK".

Clan Wallace
The Clan Wallace is a Lowlands Scottish Clan and is officially recognized as such by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. The most famous member of the clan was the Scottish patriot William Wallace of the late 13th and early 14th centuries. History Origins of the clan The Wallace family first came to Scotland with a Breton family in the 11th century. David I of Scotland was eager to extend the benefits of Norman influence and gave grants to the nobles of the south. Among them was Walter fitz Alan, who the Scottish king appointed his Steward in 1136. One of Fitzallan's followers was Richard Wallace from Oswestry who came north to try to improve his fortunes. Oswestry is on the Welsh border. So it is possible that the name Wallace may be a corruption of Le Waleis meaning the "Welshman". One similar theory is the name's being derived from the Old English ''wylisc'' (pronounced "wullish"), meaning "foreigner" or "Welshman".. However, while it is possible that the Wallaces in the Clyde ...

Wallace (Sin City)
Wallace is the protagonist of '' Hell and Back'', the longest of the ''Sin City'' yarns written by Frank Miller. Wallace starts off as an ex-military civilian. He is a more upright, middle class citizen than Marv or Dwight McCarthy, but also not an epitome of righteousness like John Hartigan, none of whom he has any contact with. A demobilized Navy SEAL who received the Medal of Honor, he lives a life of relative peace and solitude against the backdrop of crime-ridden Basin City. Having left the Navy years prior, he makes a living as an artist (usually for sleazy magazines, to his great disgust) and as a short order cook. His life changes drastically when he saves a suicidal woman named Esther from drowning. She is kidnapped and enslaved by the Colonel, one of Basin City's most powerful crime bosses, sending Wallace on a single-minded journey to rescue her and take down those responsible, no matter who gets in his way. Appearance and personality In his late 30s or early 4 ...

Wallace, Nova Scotia
Wallace is a rural community in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. History Originally called Remsheg (or Ramshag), meaning "the place between" in the Mi'kmaq language. The homes of the Acadians who lived in the village were burned as part of the Bay of Fundy Campaign (1755) during the French and Indian War. Wallace and near-by Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia were the first villages in Acadia to be burned because they were the gateway through which Acadians supplied the French Fortress Louisbourg. Fourteen other ranks of the Royal Fencible American Regiment took up land grants in Remsheg following the American Revolutionary War, as did the Westchester Refugees from Westchester county, New York (sometimes known as DeLancey's 'Cowboys' for their cattle raids to help the British cause). Scottish immigrants followed and the village was renamed Wallace in honour of Scottish folk hero William Wallace as well as the first colonial treasurer of Nova Scotia, Michael Wallace. The vil ...
