Vampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 2006 and currently signed to Columbia Records. The band was formed by lead vocalist and guitarist Ezra Koenig, multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij, drummer Chris Tomson, and bassist Chris Baio. Batmanglij departed the group in early 2016. The band's eponymous first album '' Vampire Weekend'' (2008)—which included charting singles "A-Punk" and "Oxford Comma"—showcased a blend of indie pop, Afropop influences, and chamber music elements, and has been hailed as one of the greatest debut albums. Chris Baio
Christopher Baio (born October 29, 1984) is an American musician, best known for being the bassist for the New York City-based indie rock band Vampire Weekend. He also releases as a record producer under the mononym Baio, and his debut solo album ''The Names'' was released through Glassnote Records on 18 September 2015. Life Baio was turned on to music at an early age, purchasing his first album at the age of seven and going to his first concert, a live performance by the band Cracker, at the age of nine. Baio said that, as a child, he would go to sleep with ''Doolittle'' by Pixies playing. Baio attended Columbia University in New York, majoring in Russian and Eurasian Regional studies and minoring in Math, graduating in May 2007. The Larmer Tree Gardens near Tollard Royal in south Wiltshire, England, were created by landowner Augustus Pitt Rivers in 1880 as pleasure grounds for "public enlightenment and entertainment". "Oxford Comma" is the third single by Vampire Weekend, released May 26, 2008, from their debut album, ''Vampire Weekend''. Song title and meaning On January 28, 2008, Michael Hogan of '' Vanity Fair'' interviewed Ezra Koenig regarding the title of the song and its relevance to the song's meaning. Koenig said he first encountered the Oxford comma (a comma used before the conjunction at the end of a list) after learning of a Columbia University Facebook group called Students for the Preservation of the Oxford comma. The idea for the song came several months later while Koenig was sitting at a piano in his parents' house. He began "writing the song and the first thing that came out was 'Who gives a fuck about an Oxford comma?'" He stated that the song "is more about not giving a fuck than about Oxford commas." "A-Punk" is a song by indie rock band Vampire Weekend, released on February 28, 2008 as the second single from their 2008 self-titled debut album. The band made their network television debut by performing "A-Punk" on the '' Late Show with David Letterman''. Critical reception Mark Richardson of ''Pitchfork'' described "A-Punk" as having a "spunky drive, pogo-inducing rhythm, and subtle but hugely effective sonic accents" and said that "while solid, tisn't one of the stronger songs on ''Vampire Weekend''". He is also the lead vocalist and guitarist for a side project called Dams of the West, for which he writes and records the entirety of its music.
