Vamana
Vamana (), also known as Trivikrama (), Urukrama (), Upendra (), Dadhivamana (), and Balibandhana () is an avatar of the Hindu deity Vishnu. He is the fifth avatar of Vishnu, and the first Dashavatara in the Treta Yuga, after Narasimha. Originating in the Vedas, Vamana is most commonly associated in the Hindu epics and Puranas with the legend of taking back the three worlds (collectively referred to as the ''Trailokya'') from the daitya-king Bali by taking three steps to restore the cosmic order. He is the youngest among the adityas, the sons of Aditi and the sage Kashyapa. Nomenclature and etymology 'Vāmana' (Sanskrit वामन) means 'dwarf', 'small' or 'small or short in stature'. It also means 'dwarfish bull', which is notable as Vishnu is directly associated with dwarfish animals (including bulls) in the Vedas (see below). Basti Vaman Shenoy
Basti Vaman Madhav Shenoy (6 November 1934 – 2 January 2022) was an Indian Konkani activist popularly known as ''Vishwa Konkani Sardar'' (World Konkani Leader) and was the founder of World Konkani Centre in Shakthinagar, Mangalore. Early life Basti Vaman Shenoy was born on 6 November 1934 in Bantwal, a town in Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka. His father Basti Madhav Shenoy, popularly known as Motra Madhav, was booking agent of the CPC Bus Service of Mangalore. Vaman Shenoy's mother was Gowri alias Bhagirathi. He passed out of Tenth Standard (SSLC) in 1952 from the SVS High School in Bantwal. He wanted to pursue higher education and become a teacher but due to his family conditions he had to leave school and join his father to help in his business. For a brief period he also worked in Canara Bank. Vaman Shenoy's father died in 1957 and with this the responsibility of whole family fell on the shoulders of Vaman Shenoy. Datto Vaman Potdar
Dattatray Vaman Potdar (5 August 1890 – 6 October 1979), better known as Datto Vaman Potdar, was an Indian historian, writer, and orator. He was the Vice-Chancellor of University of Pune during 1961 - 1964. The British colonial Government of India had honored Potdar with the title ''Mahamahopadhyaya'' in 1946. He was honored by government of india with '' Padmabhushan'' in 1967. Because of his vast knowledge, he was sometimes called as '' Dr. Johnson of Maharashtra'' or ''a living encyclopedia''. Potdar was a disciple of the historian Vishwanath Kashinath Rajwade, and served as a trustee of Pune based Itihas Sanshodhak Mandal (इतिहास संशोधक मंडळ) founded by Rajwade. Vaman Pandit (born Vaman Tanaji Sesha) ( mr, वामनपंडित) (1608–1695) was a Marathi scholar and poet of India. Vaman Pandit from the house of Sesha was a great poet whose poetry made quite an impact on the whole Maharashtra. Vaman Pandit's narrative poem have been very popular with masses and the Kirtankars. Harihar Vaman Deshpande (5 March 1905 – 20 April 1965) was born in Chandkapur (Amravati) Bombaby Presidency, India. Biography Education Harihar Vaman Deshpande completed his high school education from Government Hindu High School at Amravati, where he appeared for his 10th standard in 1921. In 1918, he joined Hanuman Vayayam Prasarak Mandal, Amravati, where he was trained in wrestling and other traditional sports. Pandurang Vaman Kane (pronounced ''Kaa-nay'') (7 May 1880 – 18 April 1972) was a notable Indologist and Sanskrit scholar. Vaman Malhar Joshi (January 21, 1882 – July 20, 1943) was a Marathi writer from Bombay Presidency, British India. Early life Joshi was born in a Deshastha Brahmin family on January 21, 1882 in the town of Tale in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. After finishing his high school education in 1900, he studied at Deccan College in Pune to receive his bachelor's and master's degrees in Philosophy in 1904 and 1906, respectively. Career Joshi served thereafter for a few years as a teacher in a nationalistic high school. (India was under British Raj in those times.) beginning in 1908, he also served as the editor of a nationalistic monthly ''Wishwa Wrutta'' (विश्ववृत्त).
