Order Of The Eastern Star
The Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonic appendant body open to both men and women. It was established in by lawyer and educator Rob Morris, a noted Freemason, and adopted and approved as an appendant body of the Masonic Fraternity in 1873. The order is based on some teachings from the Bible, and is open to people of all religious beliefs. It has approximately 10,000 chapters in twenty countries and approximately 500,000 members under its General Grand Chapter. Members of the Order of the Eastern Star are aged 18 and older; men must be Master Masons and women must have specific relationships with Masons. Originally, a woman would have to be the daughter, widow, wife, sister, or mother of a Master Mason. Omega Epsilon Sigma () was a collegiate sorority operating in the United States from 1925 until, approximately, 1930. It is the second known organization for college women with Order of the Eastern Star affiliation, the first being Achoth. Omicron Epsilon Sigma Omega Epsilon Sigma was founded as ''Omicron'' Epsilon Sigma on January 3, 1925, at Central Missouri State Teachers College (now University of Central Missouri). The 1925 edition of the ''Sunflower yearbook'' described the sorority's membership policy as "eligibility to membership in this organization is based upon affiliation with the Order of the Eastern Star." Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is a public university in Hays, Kansas. It is the fourth-largest of the six state universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents, with a total enrollment of approximately 15,100 students. History FHSU was founded in 1902 as the Western Branch of Kansas State Normal School, which is now known as Emporia State University. The institution was originally located on the grounds of Fort Hays, a frontier military outpost that was closed in 1889. Theta Upsilon () was a national women's fraternity operating in the United States from February 1921 until May 1962, when the group was absorbed by the Delta Zeta sorority. Local Club Theta Upsilon began as a local club at the University of California, Berkeley when six female students moved into a house on Walnut Street. The house became known as "The Walnut Shell". In the academic year of –, twelve girls organized an official "house club" under the university. It was called Mekatina, which meant "Among the Hills". Mekatina had a ritual based on Native American themes. The pin was a rising sun. The formal founding date, according to Delta Zeta's history, was . Lambda Omega () was a national collegiate sorority operating in the United States from October 31, 1915 until 1933. History The Norroena Club was founded in 1915 on the campus of University of California, Berkeley. The sorority remained a local for seven years. The name meant "Breath of the North". The ritual combined a Indigenous peoples of the Americas, Native American legend with a Norsemen, Norse Motif (narrative), motif. The motif emphasized the hardihood, hospitality, economy, and friendship of the Norse (Miner, p. 180). In 1923, the name changed to Lambda Omega. Baird's 20th ed. notes that Lambda Omega's founding date was to coincide with this name change, and marked the decision to expand nationally. Expansion began immediately.
